Decentralisation and Local Development : Tiko Rejoices Over Drinking Water System

The project worth over FCFA one billion was commissioned on June 4, 2024 by the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam.
Some 80, 000 people residing in Tiko Subdivisional towns of Mutengene and Likomba as well as Buea Subdivisional villages of Dibanda, Ekande and Lower-Bokova, in the Fako Division of the South West Region now enjoy a modern potable water supply system from a scheme financed through the German-Cameroon cooperation.
Cameroon’s Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM) channelled the financing of the project under its Medium Cities Decentralisation Programme. The Tiko water project that cost FCFA one billion 71 million was inaugurated in Mutengene on June 4, 2024 by the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam accompanied by the German Ambassador to Cameroon, Her Excellency Dr. Corinna Fricke. Local traditional leaders, administrative officials, the elite and thronging masses turned out to live the event at the Mutengene Brasseries Club esplanade.
On commissioning the water scheme after visiting the catchment on the slopes of Mutengene hill, Minister Elanga Obam praised the fruitful cooperation between Germany and Cameroon. He urged the beneficiary population to sustain their water scheme jealously, protecting it from any vandalism acts. The Minister praised the Tiko Council for conceiving the water project in 2014, acclaimed FEICOM for mutualizing the funding and commended the German KFW for financing the life-saving water supply.
