World Chocolate Day : The roots of sustainability

Journalists in the Littoral region have been sensitised on efforts put in place to ensure the sustainable production of cocoa which is the main product use to produce chocolate. This was during a press conference organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on July 8. 2025 in Douala as part of the celebration of the World Chocolate Day which was commemorated on July 7. During the press conference, journalists were drilled on the actions taken by WWF to educate and train farmers on best practices in cocoa planting amongst others. WWF's cocoa strategy places sustainable production as a key lever for conservation in priority landscapes. Recognizing cocoa as the main source of income for many Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and local communities (LCs), WWF promotes cocoa value chains that are both environmentally friendly and socially inclusive.
Through its cocoa-related interventions, WWF Cameroon has been supporting cocoa producers in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices that preserve biodiversity, enhance livelihoods, and strengthen the reputation and quality of Cameroonian cocoa in the global market. These efforts are aligned with WWF's broader goals of promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns that benefit both people and nature.
