President Biya’s Term Of Office : Seven Years Of Strides, Challenges

The convening of electors to the polls on October 12, 2025 for presidential election signals the gradual end of President Paul Biya's current term of office.

Cameroonians will be going to the polls on October 12, 2025 to vote the President of the Republic who will steer the ship of State for the next seven years.  The presidential election of the coming October 12 will signal the gradual drive to the end of President Paul Biya's current seven-year term of office which started when he was sworn-in at the National Assembly on November 6, 2018.
As the term of office draws to an end, Cameroonians and keen political observers have been trying to draw a balance sheet of President Paul Biya’s stewardship at the helm of the nation for the past seven years.  The balance sheet will be based on the priority actions and programmes he announced in the inaugural speech on November 6, 2018.  He captioned the term office as that of “Great Opportunities.”  President Biya told his compatriots and the world in general that, “Overall, during the seven-year term which is starting, we will strive to consolidate our achievements, while exploring new avenues that will enable us make use of all the opportunities offered by an ever-changing world.”
President Biya in the speech detailed out the priorities. He stated the strive to develop the sectors of the economy that could significantly reduce import of goods and services, a veritable agricultural revolution by modernizing production tools and processing products, implementation of the Industrialisation Master Plan, stable and efficient power supply, transformation of Cameroon into a major electricity producer in Africa as well as providing electricity power supply to rural areas.  The President also stated the resolve to continue to develop transport infrastructure, creation of jobs, promotion of women, social integration of youths, development of cultural heritage, enhancement of health system and provision of sports sector with support that it deserves.
