Destruction of Voter Cards : Unpatriotic Act!

In the last few days, the internet has been flooded with disturbing images and videos of citizens destroying their voter cards. As observed, the unpatriotic act escalated after the ruling of the Constitutional Council on pre-electoral disputes. From the look of things, the expectations of supporters of some candidates whose petitions on the rehabilitation of their candidacy files were rejected by the judicial institution were not met. Their frustration is thus being expressed through the destruction of these vital electoral document, which is equally an identification document. Videos and images seen circulating have been Cameroonians resident in the country and abroad vandalising their voter cards. Some speak in the videos while others just share pictures of either the twisted or torn voter card. Those who make accompanying statements say they are no longer interested in participating in the electoral process because the Constitutional Council did not give a favourable judgment to the petition of their candidate. They are referring to the candidate put forth by the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM) political party, Maurice Kamto. To some of the persons destroying their voter cards, who according to their words in the video can be said to be supporters of the international lawyer whose candidacy files did not sail through for reasons relating to the internal squabbles of the party that put him forth, it is either him or no one else. Simply put, the rest of the electoral process does not concern them, or do we say, they do not have an alternative candidate amongst the 12 validated by the Constitutional Council.
