2025 Men’s AfroBasket : Cameroon Plays Quarterfinals Today

The Basketball Lions of Cameroon will be facing Egypt this evening in the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIBA Men’s AfroBasket competition in Luanda, Angola. The Lions qualified for this stage of the competition after overpowering the Democratic Republic of Congo 77-68 in the playoff game on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. A game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds from NBA star Yves Missi, Williams Narace’s 18 points, and Samir Gbetkom’s 16 points propelled Cameroon to victory.
The Cameroonian team, as usual, started off slowly but later gained a grip on the match, even though most of their efforts were foiled by unnecessary mistakes and inaccuracies. Nonetheless, the essential goal had been achieved: qualifying for the quarterfinals; a feat they last realised in 2017. There was no time to relax, knowing they had a bigger obstacle to overcome in the matchup against Egypt. No team would have wished to meet the Egyptians at this stage of the competition, given the remarkable manner in which they progressed to the quarterfinals. While the Lions had to limp into the quarters through the playoffs, the Egyptians majestically walked into this stage like the Pharaohs they are. They had smashed all their opponents to finish at the top of Group D with a perfect record of 3 wins out of 3.
