Buea Reference Hospital : Construction Work To Resume

The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie made the announcement at the end of his working visit to the South West Region on August 21, 2025.

Construction works on the Bwitigi site of the Buea Reference Hospital will soon resume. Public Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie on a working visit to the South West Region made a stopover at the abandoned site which is now covered by wild grass. The Minister’s entourage met a handful of youth recruited by the Buea Council to clear the wild bush that has engulfed the site. Talking to reporters at the end of his visit to the region, Dr Manaouda Malachie said the construction of the Regional Hospital Centre (Reference Hospital) will resume very soon. “We are ready to resume work.  We are going to discuss with Alliance-the company doing the work and I think we are can resume works this coming month,” Public Health Minister said. Works on the construction site of the Buea Reference Hospital were halted as the armed separatist attacks surged in the ongoing socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions. The Minister declared that with the assurance of South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai on the security of the area, works can resume on the site. 
Meanwhile, on arrival in Buea for the working visit, the Minister of Public Health officially launched the Chronic Kidney Disease Screening project at the Presbyterian Diagnosis Urgent Care Hospital, Synod Office-Buea. The project which targets between 30,000 and 35,000 people in the South West and Littoral Regions is sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health and implemented by the PCC and CARNA Health. PCC Moderator, Rt. Rev Hans Miki in his welcome address, presented the strides made by the church to foster government’s policy on facilitating access to healthcare while expressing gratitude to the government for choosing the PCC hospital to host the project.
