Somalia : Gov’t Launches Century Visionary Plan

The plan aims to transform Somalia into a peaceful, unified, and economically thriving middle-income nation by the year 2060

Somalian authorities have launched an ambitious roadmap. The roadmap known as the Century Vision Plan 2060, is built on seven interconnected national development strategies, each structured into five-year phases. The plan made public on Monday, June 23, 2025 in the capital Mogadishu emphasizes national unity, economic resilience, stability, and integration into the global economic system. On hand to chair the launching was the country’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who emphasized on the need for national unity, shared res- ponsibility, and long-term planning, “We are grateful to the world for their continued support to Somalia, and we must now realize the aspira- tions of Somalis who want to compete globally,” said the President. Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060 prioritizes key areas such as infrastructure, human capital, governance, economic diversification, and climate resilience, all critical to secu- ring lasting peace and pros- perity. The Vision 2060 fra- mework was developed by Somali experts in collabora- tion with international part- ners, including the United Na- tions Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA). It is struc- tured around seven National Transformation Phases (NTPs), with the first five- year plan-NTP 2025-2029 al- ready launched earlier this year. As the country enters this ambitious new chapter, the government has called on all Somalis, at home and abroad, to contribute to the realization of a shared natio- nal future.
