The Dream Finally Came To Pass – After Three Years!

A new magazine, aiming to raise awareness and interest in sciences, was launched in Yaounde on June 26, 2025. Sciences, Arts et Technologie, SAT magazine is a general interest publication.

It took three years of toilsome preparations. For a product that billed to be completely different. From what currently obtains on the local market. And so they began with the first set of contributors. But when their articles were examined in depth, most were found wanting. Having fallen short of the standards – high standards – they had set.

Rigorous Selection
And so the process of selecting new contributors had to begin all over. This time, with greater attention paid to fine criteria details – than before. Not surprisingly, it paid off. And today, Sciences, Arts et Technologie, SAT magazine is finally here! The first issue of the general interest magazine, whose target audience includes senior college and university students, was presented to the public in Yaounde on Thursday, June 26, 2025. At a press conference called by the magazine’s management team.

Full Colour, Glossy
SAT magazine is full colour glossy 48-page publication, copiously illustrated with beautiful pictures, graphs… The magazine costs only 2,500 FCFA. To set the ball of “high standards” rolling, the first issue was printed abroad.

The Leading Articles
Meanwhile, the leading story in the pioneer issue is on eco-tourism - discovering Lake Ossa in Sanaga Maritime Division of Littoral. Others are: a scientific look at Cameroon’s prehistoric man; the risks posed screens (television and computer); indebtedness in investments, and understanding the make-up and functioning of the aircraft engine.

Filling The Vacuum
“We realized our country does not have enough magazines for young people. Young people now prefer watching television or spending long hours on their computer screens – instead of reading. Reading on screen does not allow for deeper comprehension like reading magazines and books. As a result, young people have turned to social media gossip platforms for entertainment,” said Mama Mekoua Hilde Stephane, Editor-in-Chief of Sciences, Arts et Technologie, SAT magazine.

For Young Readers
“We therefore decided to offer young people an alternative; beginning with a Facebook page, then Sciences, Arts et Technologie, SAT magazine. Which will be published every after two months. It is a magazine to encourage science. It is meant for young people eager to acquire more general knowledge - senior secondary, high school and university students,” Mama Mekoua noted.

Simple, Innovative Approach
“We are also targeting interested parents. We treat different topics, in a simple and educative manner. For example, how the aircraft engine functions; the risks in excess use of computers and watching television… In the place of spending long hours on television and computers, we proposed drawings,” she pointed out.

Three Years Of Toil!
“It was not easy! It all began in 2023 when we started choosing article topics, columns and contributors. But we realized most of the contributors used Artificial Intelligence, AI to write their articles - with no reporter research, scientific input. So we put them aside and started the process of...
