Obituary : Agnes Vigouroux Forever

“From dust to dust, the cycle of life came full circle for Agnès Marie Jeanne Vigouroux née Dubois as her remains were laid to rest in the coastal town of Kribi, South Region on July 11, 2025. The solemn occasion was a blend of sorrow and closure, as loved ones found comfort in cherished memories. First Lady Chantal Biya joined her father and other family members in paying their final respects to her stepmother, a moment that was particularly emotional for her father. The mourners' display of solidarity with the Presidential family of Cameroon was also a testament to the deceased's impact on their lives.
A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Kribi, led by Bishop Damase Zinga Atangana, where mourners united in prayer, imploring the Lord to grant strength and solace to the bereaved family. The biblical readings from Job 19:23-27 and Romans 12:9-12 emphasised the importance of Christian unity and perseverance. In his homily, Father Carlos Madola drew inspiration from John 17:1-3 and 15-26, reminding the congregation that their earthly journey is temporary and that eternity awaits, where their relationship with God will be fully realised. 
Father Madola reflected on the reality of death, noting that modern society often tries to erase it, leaving many unprepared to face it. With a sober yet hopeful tone, he conveyed a sense of hope and faith, emphasizing that death is not the end, but a transition to eternal life with God.
Father Madola urged the congregation to live with hope and confidence in God's presence and guidance, while highlighting the importance of living according to God's will which will lead to a more fulfilling and peaceful life.
