North West : Good Governance Encouraged

A three-month campaign to inculcate the virtue in regional and local councils was launched on August 1, 2025 by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator.

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the North West Region has set out to reinstate the trust and support of the population for Regional and Local Authorities and also reignite the flame of development and progress of communities that have observably been stalled by governance ineffectiveness and inefficiencies. The mission will be achieved through a three- month campaign to promote good governance across these decentralised authorities in the North West Region that the Public Independent Conciliator, Simon Fai Tamfu launched in Bamenda on August 1, 2025. The campaign is slated to run from this August to October 2025.  
Addressing the press, representatives of local councils, Regional Assembly and other stakeholders, Simon Fai Tamfu explained that, “Over the next three months, this campaign will aim at bridging the divide between councils and communities. It will be a platform to discuss and disseminate governance principles in formats that resonate with the people to strengthen capacities among council staff and grassroots actors, and to empower every stakeholder to become champions of ethical leadership. On how the campaign will be done, he said, “Our tools will be visual, interactive, and grounded in culture posters, illustrations, slogans and messages, radio and television programmes, as well as newspapers, all designed to educate, inspire and mobilise stakeholders and citizens.”
