Politicking : Multiple Carpet Crossings

The recent days have been filled with citizens leaving one party and joining another, and political parties aligning with others ahead of the Presidential polls.
Moment ahead of the October 12 Presidential election is mounting. The political scene is very active and the last days have been marked by several movements by persons of voting age from one political party to another. Some political parties, notably those who have candidates participating in the race for the Presidency of the Republic, are aligning with other political parties not in the race, with the prospects of getting a broader electorate on election day. Traditional and social media platforms have published these political movements.
Last week-end (August 9), the Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC) of Isaa Tchiroma Bakary, received militants from other political parties, notably those decamping from the Cameroon Peoples’ Democratic Movement, the Social Democratic Front and the National Alliance for Democracy and Progress. The militants of the aforementioned political parties are said to have decamped from the regional branches of their respective parties in the North, Adamawa and Far North Regions. Meetings have been organised by officials of FSNC to welcome their new party sympathisers.
The Secretary General of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP), Senator Pierre Flambeau Ngayap on July 22 and August 15, 2025 in Bafoussam and Bamenda respectively received some new militants into the party. In the two separate press conferences granted to that effect on the aforementioned days, the scribe of the party said the formers members of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) had declared their support for the candidacy of Bello Bouba Maigari in the upcoming election.
There have also been meetings between political parties with those not participating in the race for the Unity Palace throwing their weight behind those with candidates. Recently, the candidate of the United People for Social Renovation (PURS), Serge Espoir Matomba exchanged with the National President of the Cameroon Reformation Party (CRP), Foligar Lang. The latter was coming to give his support to the candidacy of the former.
