“We Poorly Managed the Fourth Quarter”

What do you think went wrong for Cameroon in the match against Angola?
We executed our game plan properly until the end of the third quarter. The problem was in the management of the fourth quarter. The score in that final quarter was 22-14 in favour of Angola. We had some issues with our offensive play. In the last quarter, we held onto the ball too long instead of passing at the right time. It was a problem of shot selection. We also had turnovers at bad moments; three times in the last two minutes. We did not take care of the ball when it mattered most. Our turnovers were converted by Angola, and that cost us a lot. The overall management of the fourth quarter was what went wrong. We played a great game, but in the end, we did not manage it well.


There is an outcry about the refereeing of the match. Do you share this opinion?
It’s always difficult to talk about referees. They are human beings who have to manage players, coaches, and a crowd. More than 12,000 people attended that game, so the referees were often under pressure. When I used to play basketball, my coaches always told me to focus on what went wrong on my side, not to blame the referees.
