20th May : Cameroon Tribune Begins Countdown

The national bilingual daily will from today May 6, 2025 take its fervent readers through preparatory activities and the stakes and challenges of the occasion.

Cameroon will in two weeks from now (May 20, 2025) celebrate yet one more anniversary of its unification. Another moment to remember the 1972 plebiscite in which the hitherto East Cameroon (formerly French Cameroun) and West Cameroon (previously British Cameroons) took a historic decision to become one and forge ahead a common destiny. In fact, celebrating the indivisibility that has been shaped over the years, mounting challenges notwithstanding.  
In effect, to mark this important moment in the life of the nation, Cameroon Tribune is beginning a countdown that will culminate on May 20, 2025 with the 53rd National Unity Day proper. The national bilingual daily is therefore dedicating special pages to this important occasion from today May 6, 2025. The aim is to provide daily coverage of the preparatory activities for the civil and military parade on 20 May throughout the country, while giving a chance to the various stakeholders involved to show Cameroonians and the world what they are doing to keep the country together. It will also show the concrete manifestations of living together in Cameroon, with a focus on three emblematic towns (Ngaoundere, in the Adamawa, Limbe, in the South West and Nkongsamba, in the Littoral regions). This will be to highlight the peaceful coexistence policy the Head of State has been championing over the years.
All the regions of the country will also converge on the special pages with their National Day activities and showcase their peculiarities. To say the least, the special pages will serve as a melting pot of Cameroon in all its diversity and splendour; this Africa in miniature where sons and daughters...
