Bamenda : Advocating To Peace, Prosperity

Celebrations marking the 53rd edition of Cameroon’s National Day on May 20, 2025 took over two hours 30 minutes at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand.
Tradition was once more respected in Bamenda on May 20, 2025 as the town’s Commercial Avenue Grandstand and its environs was jammed to capacity with the population that turned out to celebrate the 53rd edition of Cameroon’s National Day. The ceremony presided at by the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique consisted mainly of the award of medals to military and civilian officials, as well as the military and civilian march past.
The activities were tailored to suit the celebration theme, “Army and nation united for a Cameroon turned towards peace and prosperity.” The defence and security forces in both parades as foot soldiers and motorized units demonstrated their growing determination to bring back peace and prosperity to the security-crisis affected North West Region. Animated by the band of the 5th Joint Military Region, the forces held every one spellbound with their thrilling performance and display of defence and security arsenal. Indeed, the National Gendarmerie, army, Police, Penitentiary Administration, Ex-servicemen, Customs and Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife in different squares and equipment thrilled the population that responded with intermittent applauds.
The civilian march past was another attraction with some innovations. It opened with the conspicuous march with a transparent ballot box an indication that this is an electoral year. Though the usual hustle with educational institutions was not really perceptible, public institutions, groups and associations and hundreds of motorcycle riders mobilized by the Bamenda City Council thrilled the population. Supporters and members of the Mezam I A, Mezam I B and Mezam I C Sections of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) rivaled each other in the demonstration of strength.
